Playing Tag (Social Bookmarking Tools)
Week 3 Tagging, Folksonomies, & Technorati
I am interested in the social bookmarking technology explored in Week 3 Tagging, Folksonomies & Technorati. I searched del.icio.us and I wish I had time to explore the sites I found. However, I am more interested in having my bookmarks available to me from anywhere than sharing them. I can't imagine anyone being that interested in the websites I visit routinely.
While I feel a bit uncomfortable with social classification, I think the unstructured approach to tagging is interesting because I get to see how others think about and categorize information. Tagging my bookmarks may be a good way to organize and refer to bookmarks I use in my office and during information literacy sessions.
Technorati and other blog directories are great for exploring the blogosphere. I think such tools can be used to get a general feel for public opinion and attitudes when student are researching and writing about social issues and current topics. I am considering introducing blog directories as another search tool for Internet research in my library instruction classes.

Mary's 23 Things Blog
Week 2 Blogging
This web log or blog is a result of the assigned Week 2 Blogging module.
As the blog counselor for our Information Matrix Camp for the past two summers (2007 & 2008), I've had some experience creating blogs, but I haven't keep a blog regularly since I journaled my internship while in library school. That was a long time ago in 2005. ;)

Something Wiki This Way Comes...
Week 1 Introduction - Learn to learn this way
I completed the first week's module where I learned to work in SLA's Wiki Spaces by playing in their Wiki Sandbox. I created a profile based upon a template and posted twice to the Week 1 Introduction - Learn to learn this way space.
SLA's Wiki Sandbox is a place to explore ideas and play. Here is the temporary link to the profile I placed there:

I need to move my profile content of the SLA Wiki Sandbox elsewhere because it is only a play and practice space and will probably be deleted soon. It's a fun learning space and am considering using wikis to share department information where I work.

Welcome to my SLA 23 Things blog!

I joined the Special Libraries Association (SLA) in August 2008. SLA launched the 23 Things initiative at the annual conference, which I missed. So, I registered and started the 23 Things late. However, the deadline was extended and I am trying to tackle the nine week exploration of Web 2.0 technologies before December 15, 2008.
The modules for the 23 Things are:
- Week 1 Introduction - Learn to learn this way
- Week 2 Blogging
- Week 3 Tagging, Folksonomies & Technorati
- Week 4 Photos & Images
- Week 5 RSS & Newsreaders
- Week 6 Play Week
- Week 7 Wikis - Collaborative Portals
- Week 8 Online Applications & Tools
- Week 9 Podcasts, Video & Downloadable Audio
I'm going to have to get going if I plan on meeting that December 15th deadline. I'll keep you posted.
